What is a soul contract and why is it important?

Understanding our purpose here on earth and the lessons we need to learn can be integral to leading a fulfilling life. This is where our soul contract comes into play. 

What is a soul contract?

A soul contract (often referred to as a life contract) is the agreement that we make at a soul level before we come into this current life, this incarnation. It’s typical that we have one for each incarnation and usually when the incarnation occurs the contract doesn’t change, only in very rare circumstances can it be amended during a life on earth, it’s not something to be taken lightly. 

Our soul contract is something that’s made in agreement with other important figures in spirit. As in corporations on the earth, the spirit world is multi-layered and there are beings in more senior positions who are more adept at weighing in on these things. The soul contract is decided by the individual that is coming into that existence. It may have some stipulations from other members of that soul group or soul family - for example if you’re incarnating as Jayne Doe’s son but her contract stipulates that her son is going to be President, then your contract will need to match in with that. All contracts that are made are approved by the elders, a panel of senior people in the spirit world. 

What purpose does the soul contract serve?

We plan our life when we come here. We come with purpose, we incarnate to learn and to progress at a soul level and that requires careful planning. We might need to ensure we have certain experiences in this life, experience karmic connections, a destined romantic partner who we know well in the spirit world, and it keeps us on track for the duration of our stay here on earth. On rare occasions, people choose to not complete a contract prior to their incarnation but for the most part souls plan their life out with precision. My guide is currently describing it as a script. It might not be played out word for word but it’s a general overview of where things need to head, the lessons you need to learn and the experiences you’re agreeing to have. 

What sort of information is contained within a soul contract? 

Things like physical appearance form part of this contract and specific features that you’re going to adopt. This could be what you’ll inherit from your parents genetically but also might include if you’re going to incarnate as a person with no left arm or with 6 fingers instead of 5. Also things like our career path is often included, our life purpose in that existence, if we’re destined to have children, any specific milestones on your life path, your cause of death and when you’ll die might also be included. These are things that you will pick before you come into existence - consciously you may not be aware of them but your soul knows and your spirit guides are aware and will ensure you are moving towards the specific goalposts. 

Are illnesses included?

On some occasions, yes. You may have selected to have cancer as a child to teach others what it’s like caring for such a sick child, you might also have wanted to experience what it’s like to overcome such adversity at a young age. There is always a purpose with things like this and it’s all for the greater good and for the soul's journey.  However there’s a lot of illnesses that aren’t included and are a symptom of our poor lifestyle choices and the illness when it crops up is spirit trying to get our attention, encouraging improvements and better lifestyle choices. 

Does this my life is pre-planned?

No, not at all! The opposite in fact. We all have periods in our lives where free will is at play and we’re not restricted to a specific path, however sometimes that might change. In these situations, our spirit team will have us on a short leash because we have a part of our life that is destined - they may need to ensure we have a career change or that we cross paths with a specific person for example. In many cases, a lot of our life is in our own hands. It might be that there are some experiences that are in our contract that we need to have but overall, the direction our lives take is up to us. Some of us however might be restricted in terms of the choices we can make because we have a very specific path to walk. 

How do I get information on what my soul contract entails?

If you’re in tune with spirit, you can ask specific questions using your spiritual gifts, tarot cards or a pendulum for example. If you’re reliant on using an intuitive to receive information from spirit, the best option is a reading that accesses your Akashic Record. This is where your information on past lives, your current soul contract for this incarnation and potentially information on future incarnations is held. Please bear in mind that not all information is to be known by us in human form and it is up to a higher power what information is divulged to us and at what juncture this occurs.
